Can babies Learn the Language – Is it too early?

Can babies learn a second language? Of course, babies are constantly learning.  In my case, my husband is Caucasian and I’m Chinese.  I’ve written about – What if there is only one bilingual parent here,  and I’ve chosen to teach my daughter Chinese.  Right from when she was born I’ve been talking to her mostly in Chinese.  I’ve asked my parents to also speak to her in Chinese so can expose her to more Chinese vocabulary.  My parents and Mother-in-law have both said ‘ Well you have to teach her English, how is she going to survive daycare? I’ve created a post here about that too.  We live in Canada and it’s a majority English speaking country.  There is plenty of opportunity to learn English is part of our everyday lives.  English will be the easy language to learn.  Learning a second language will be hard.  That’s why it’s better to give your child a helping hand and start learning the language earlier rather than later.  We all know learning another language is difficult, we often spend hundreds of dollars in classes, private tutoring, or language apps to learn another language.   Babies have a unique ability to grasp onto something and process it.  They learn so fast.  That’s why it’s never too early to start teaching your child another language.
