Circle Sticky Chinese Activity

Circle Sticky Chinese Activity

I’m having fun learning Chinese with my daughter.  She’s only 16 months old but I’ve been talking to her in Chinese since she was born.  Creating activities for her is fun, educational for her, my husband and myself.  Actually my husband has picked up lots of Chinese and since I’m writing a lot of Chinese now, well more than before which was none, I’m learning or relearning written Chinese.  Kids love sticky things and this is another Contact sheet sticking activity to learn shapes.  She’s pretty good at stars and hearts and I wanted her to practice a different shape.  This is a circle sticky Chinese activity and what I did was below.  Great activity for toddlers and babies who are 16-18 months old.

Chinese Vocab:

  • Circle (圓, yuen)
  • Fuzzy
  • Sticky

What you need:

The Contact sheet was cut into a shape of a circle and the Chinese word for circle was drawn on the paper.  I decided to use cotton face pads because well it’s a different texture for her to play with instead of foam pads or stickers.  Then she can also see what happens when cotton touches a sticky surface.   Different things for her to learn and play with always stimulates her mind.  Painters tape was used to secure the circle contact sheet onto the side of a couch.  I gave her cotton face pads so she could put them on the sticky surface.

Result:

She really likes the painters tape so she was helping me tape the circle onto the couch.  After I took out the cotton face pads she was intrigued with them and spent time separating them and taking them out of the package.   I interacted with her in Chinese saying – This is a circle, circles are round, this is sticky, face pads are fuzzy, what does this surface feel like, what shape is the face pad.  She started placing the face pads on the contact sheet and had fun doing that.  Then she started to remove them as well.  Smearing the cotton on the sheet left a cotton mark.  She rubbed the Contact sheet and discovered that there is a difference between the sticky side to the cotton side.  Everything was in shapes of a circle and we talked a lot about circles in Chinese.  This activity was fun and lots for the baby to learn.  Will do it again in the future.
